Rebuilding Together Chattanooga to Celebrate National Rebuilding Month

Read Now

CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE (April. 1, 2020)--Rebuilding Together, the leading national nonprofit organization with a mission to repair the homes of people in need and revitalize our communities, will host its annual National Rebuilding Month this April. Each year, Rebuilding Together affiliates repair 10,000 homes, making them safer for our most vulnerable neighbors including seniors, veterans, people with disabilities and families with young children.

In our community, Rebuilding Together Chattanooga works throughout the year to reserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities through free home repairs and modifications for neighbors in need.

Throughout April, Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country celebrate our work to serve veterans, older adults, families with children and victims of disaster by providing them with a variety of critical, safe and healthy home repairs, including: flooring repairs and replacement, weatherization repairs, roof and handrail replacements, accessibility modifications, painting, landscaping and other major home rehabilitations. The repairs are provided free of charge to neighbors in need, who are often faced with diminishing resources and must choose food and medicine over critical home repairs. Over time, neglect of maintenance can lead to crumbling foundations, dangerously sagging roofs and windows and doors that can’t be securely shut.

“We feel it is a fundamental right for everyone to have a safe home and community,” said Caroline Blakely, President and CEO of Rebuilding Together. “Every April, we have the chance to highlight the critical home repairs and community revitalization projects Rebuilding Together affiliates are doing year-round to make this vision a reality.”

National Rebuilding Month is made possible by Republic Services who provides support to Rebuilding Together affiliates.

National Rebuilding Month originated in 1973 in Midland, Texas with volunteers helping neighbors rebuild their homes. The group founded Rebuilding Together, at the time called “Christmas in April,” and gathered around a month of service each year in April. The mission then grew beyond the idea of providing service one month per year to bringing volunteers together to provide neighbors in need with critical repairs year-round.
